What would you like to practise?

Your instructions

I have an interview next week. I want to use the right business vocabulary in the right context.

Watch how I use phrasal verbs, and correct my pronunciation — especially words that start with an “h”, like hire and handle.

Your focus

  • Business vocabulary in context
  • Using phrasal verbs naturally
  • The /h/ sound in hire and handle
Your partner

Let’s start with a question you’re likely to hear: tell me about a time you handled a difficult client.

Grammar you’ve learned, in a conversation that helps you use it.

Made for practice. By a language learner.

Hi, I’m Iain, a language teacher and software engineer. I’ve learned several languages, but I’ve always felt I had a memory like a sieve.

Whenever I spent more time speaking, my ability took off. The hard part was getting enough practice — and finding someone with the patience to listen while I found my words.

I tried just about every app under the sun, but I found them too prescriptive and soon got bored. I wanted the freedom to talk about things that interested me, make mistakes and try again.

That’s why I built Language Partner: a patient conversation partner whenever you have a few minutes, with a place to save and revisit the words that won’t quite stick.

A few things
you might be wondering.

Is this for complete beginners?

Language Partner is designed for learners who already know the basics, around A2 level and above. It gives you a place to practise what you’ve learned with a teacher or course, through conversation.

Do I need my own AI subscription?

No. AI access is provided through Language Partner. You’ll need a Language Partner account, but you don’t need a separate AI subscription or your own API key.

Can I speak, or do I have to type?

You can do either. Speak your message, check it and send it, or type instead. You can listen to your partner’s replies and look up words along the way.

Which languages can I practise?

The current app includes English, Russian, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese. The examples on this page show Russian with English translations. Grammar topic availability varies by language.

When can I get the app?

Language Partner is currently in private testing on iPhone. The launch offer is a one-time 15-minute free conversation allowance. Subscription prices and monthly allowances will be announced before public access opens.

Does it work without an internet connection?

An internet connection is needed for AI replies, translations and your cloud-saved words. Your messages are sent to an AI provider to generate replies; saved vocabulary and conversation summaries are stored with your Language Partner account.
